The big mystery, which has perplexed man's greatest minds since mankind first emerged , is what or who is God. Since no-one claims to know exactly what it/he/she is, then any debate over the subject is irrelevant. We are all aware of individual or groups of individuals who claim that their brand of "religion" is the real thing and the only acceptable faith, that which supercedes all others.
The most dangerous of these today are the groups of extreme Islamic Fundamentalists who believe that massacre of innocent people in the name of their "God" is not only permissable but laudable. History is full of examples of this type of behavior resulting from a distorted interpretation of one faith or another.
On another subject, do you think we have had enough analysis of the presidential campaign? Only the final tally matters, so lets wait and see. My prediction is that Bush will win with a clear margin. This opinion is based on my observation that the majority of voters vote their "gut feeling" based on their perception of the candidate and one or two of the issues. Very few actually examine the respective platforms or records based on an anlysis of the issues from a factual standpoint.

Well Brig, although I agree that Islamic fundementalists are wrong in there persuit to massacre under orders of their "god". I would like to remind you that in our country there are also limitations on our rights due to the "chosen" presidents' "god". They may not be comparable to other situations in other countries, but if not adressed, where will it lead to?
In response to anonymous (10/26/2004). Thank you for your comment. Your statement is valid, though I think it opens up an entirely new discussion. My intent in the original post was to point out some permutations of religion (not lmited to Islam of course) that cause harm to others. I noted that TODAY the most dangerous are the Islamic Fundamentalists who engage in terror. This is true because they are dedicated, numerous, organized, heavily armed, and have a proven track record.
The restriction of human rights in the US is a serious concern. I do not believe that this is happening because of religious persecution, though this is certainly debatable.
Some may argue that Bush is more dangerous than the terrorists because of all of the same reasons. Although I believe Bush is dangerous, I think (at least he believes) that he is acting on behalf of the preservation of his country. I don't believe his policies are driven by religious fanaticism, though his religious outlook may lend support. Some would argue this point as well.
I welcome your thoughts, Brig.
